UTM parameters are short tags added to the end of a link, such as ?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=diwali-sale-2026. When someone clicks, Google Analytics 4 reads them and credits the visit, and any lead or sale, to that source and campaign. Without them, many clicks from emails, WhatsApp, PDFs and social posts show up as Direct or Referral, and you cannot tell which campaign worked.
Most tracking problems come from inconsistent naming rather than missing tags. GA4 treats Facebook and facebook as two different sources, and a medium it does not recognise, such as “qr” or “whatsapp”, lands in Unassigned. This builder cleans every value as you type (lowercase, no spaces, no stray symbols), keeps existing parameters and #anchors in your address, and shows the GA4 default channel each link is expected to fall into, based on Google’s published channel rules. It also warns if a value looks like an email address or phone number, because personal data must never go into a URL.
Use Team rules to agree a separator and a list of allowed sources and mediums, and every link built in this browser is checked against them. Bulk mode turns a pasted spreadsheet into a CSV of finished links. Presets cover Google Ads, Meta Ads (with Meta’s dynamic {{campaign.name}} values), LinkedIn, email, WhatsApp and printed QR codes.
